Deerhunter- Fluorescent Grey EP [2007]

Kranky is putting out the Fluorescent Grey EP, a set of four intensely focused songs recorded while the album was being mixed. Though clearer and less abrasive than Cryptograms musically, the new EP foregrounds lead singer Bradford Cox's morbidly erotic lyrics about the body's inevitable decomposition-- to him, a psychosexual puzzle-- much as the full-length smothered its gorgeous melodies in effects-laden squall and instrumental ambience. Whether Fluorescent Grey is meant to serve as an epilogue (as its press release maintains) or prologue, the disc is a triumphant document of a stubbornly visionary young band with the world still spread out before them.- Pitchfork

Sharpen Your Teeth [2002]

The story behind Sharpen Your Teeth is odd yet plausible: a mentally unstable character named Edgar Graham (calling himself Ugly Casanova) met up with Modest Mouse, followed them around on tour, recorded some songs, gave the recordings to labels, and then mysteriously disappeared. Songs on tapes discovered by Sub Pop were later recorded by Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse in hopes that Grahamwould resurface. The first solo record from the singer/guitarist, Sharpen Your Teeth, cuts into raw indie rock with spells of country and folk, while allowing Brock to explore a varying scope of sounds. He gets help from Brian Deck (whose production credits include Tortoise and the Sea and Cake), Tim Rutili of Red, Red Meat and Pall Jenkins of the Black Heart Procession. Ranging from heartfelt acoustic numbers ("Cat Faces") to outright bizarreness with grating vocals ("Diamonds on the Face of Evil"), there's no doubt that the mood sometimes coincides with the enigmatic Graham.- Kenyon Hopkin

Garageland- Last Exit to Garageland [1997]

Given how many contemporaneous EPs by the quartet had overlapping track listings with this album, in its various forms, it's almost more accurate to call Last Exit to Garageland a best-of compilation than a standalone release. However one wants to consider it, Last Exit is pretty darn brilliant, an enthusiastic, sharp collection of punk/pop indie songs that find their own approach. At the time, comparisons flew thick and fast to such similarly minded bands as the Pixies and The Poster Children but Garageland share an aesthetic rather than cloning anyone. It doesn't hurt that Jeremy Eade has a great singing voice and is able to kick up some high-volume delivery here and there (without sounding like, say, Black Francis) but is also just fine at calmer singing. -Ned Ragget

Pavement- Watery, Domestic EP

Released between Slanted and Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, the Watery, Domestic EP captures Pavement in a transitional phase, as the band began to abandon the static-laden guitar rock of their early recordings and started to move toward a cleaner sound. Most of the innovations of Watery, Domestic have to do with recording techniques, yet the songs are certainly fine. The cleaner production brings Pavement's inherent fractured melodicism into sharper focus, which benefits "Texas Never Whispers," the wistful "Frontwards," and the bright, nearly jangly "Shoot the Singer," but the slow grind of "Lions (Linden)" would have been mesmerizing regardless of the production, or the lack of it. - All Music Guide

Joyside - Booze At Neptune's Dawn

In March of 2001, the band was formed in a dark basement north of Beijing. After 3 years, the four lazy guys got their debut album released, it was called "Drunk is Beautiful". Then came Joyside's first nationwide tour of China. The singer Bian Yuan called it a "rock'n'roll nightmare" in the film Wasted Orient. The tour was amazing, full of passion and chaos, fuddle and shout. The entire tour was filmed by an American director named Kevin Fritz. He was the first and only filmmaker to tour with Joyside around China and thus the only one to get a true assessment of what life was like as a member of Joyside. He documented the whole tour with the band and later made it became a wonderful and cuttin-edge documentary about Joyside entitled, "Wasted Orient". After years of struggle and vomiting, Joyside started to climb out of their beer barrels. They dig pure rock'n'roll, give great big kisses to devil, and run wild on the burning side. So far Joyside has down 5 albums and this film since 2001 which are: "Everything sucks", "Drunk is beautiful", "Bitches of Rock'N'Roll-DEMO", "Bitches of Rock'N'Roll" and the film "Wasted Orient". They are bitches of rock'n'roll, who are addicted to Dead Boys, New York Dolls, Sex Pistols and the Stooges. They are surviving young dudes from the old century. They are your modern human beings' nightmare makers. JOYSIDE.

Kashmir

Kashmir is a Danish rock band formed in 1991 at Kastanievej Efterskole, Copenhagen. Originally called Nirvana, the band quickly changed its name to Kashmir due to the Seattle based grungeband of the same name, breaking through at the time. The name derived from the Led Zeppelin song Kashmir, since this was the only song all band members could agree upon, since their various musical tastes were diverse.
The band consists of the members: Kasper Eistrup (vocals & guitar), Mads Tunebjerg (bass), Asger Techau (drums) and since 1999, Henrik Lindstrand (keyboards & guitar).
Their earlier albums were musically in the vein of Primus and Red Hot Chili Peppers, but with their third full length album their style changed dramatically to be influenced by Jeff Buckley and Radiohead, a style often characterised by newcomers as in the same veins as Coldplay, however Kashmir has in Kasper Eistrup, an original text writer and singer, who can hardly be summarized as anything close to Chris Martin.

No Balance Palace [2005]

No Balance Palace (2005) includes collaborations with David Bowie and Lou Reed, and with the release of NBP, the band has yet again changed direction musically to be inspired by artists such as Sonic Youth and other noise rockers.
