Booji - Reserved [2009, Modern Sky]

Booji (波激小丝) is based in Shanghai and currently includes 33 (Vocals and Keyboards) Sun Ye (Guitar), Jiang Zhen Dong (Bass) and Da Men (Drums). Booji’s members use music elements from indie rock and rock and roll from the 90s onward to create their own music world, and therefore it is very difficult to define their song style. But the one thing that keeps a consistency in their songs is the emotional framework created by using distortion and a fairytale-like ambience. Their music is weird, blurry, and experimental with a flavor of rock. In 2009 Booji signed with Modern Sky Records, and released their debut “Reserved”.

Was She a Vampire - EP

So, I am a big fan of Skywave/Ceremony type of sound. The other day I was on a forum I frequent regularly and I stumbled upon this little gem of an EP. The band hails from Russia and it sounds like Skywave and Ceremony put together. A perfect record to fill the void while we wait for Ceremony's new album. Speaking of which, I will be posting some Ceremony and Skywave and a few other bands from Safranin Sound in the days to come.

Lovvers - Think [2008]

Lovvers are an alternative rock band from Nottingham, England. The band formed in MAY 2006 and made their live debut a few weeks later. Their sound is a chaotic mixture of fractured guitar and mangled vocals, redolent of early 90s US acts such as Scratch Acid and Drive Like Jehu. The group features a former member of The Murder of Rosa Luxembourg. Although the band is still in its infancy critical reception has been very positive, with website Drowned in Sound mentioning the group in its feature “Tips for 2007.“[1] The band’s first release was the ‘Lovvers’ EP on vinyl by Johnson Family Records, which included four of the five songs found on the CD/R distributed at live shows. Their next release ‘Near Enough For Jazz/Special Needs’ is also on Johnson Family and available in July. The band have toured with Blood Red Shoes, as well as playing shows with Blood On The Wall, Parts and Labor, Big Business, Awesome Color, Foals, BARR, Help She Can’t Swim and An Albatross.

Crocodiles - Summer of Hate [2009]

Crocodiles are a two-piece from San Diego, USA formed in 2008 playing lo-fi new wave, featuring former members of The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower. So far they have released a 7” on Zoo Music, and have two forthcoming split 7”s with a number of artists plus an LP entitled ‘Summer of Hate’.

Women - Women

Women was formed in late 2007 by Chris Reimer , Mike Wallace and brothers Pat Flegel and Matt Flegel in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Their debut full-length was produced by local hero Chad VanGaalen (in his basement studio) and was released (CD/LP) July 8th 2008 on Flemish Eye Records. In July 2008 they signed with record label Jagjaguwar and their S/T debut album was released worldwide on October 7th 2008 on JagJaguwar.
